In April of 2007, Census released new weights and corrected health insurance information for the 2005 ASEC. The default 2004 TRIM3 input data had been created using the original release. In order to capture this new information, an additional version of the 2004 TRIM3 input data was created using this corrected data. This new version appears in the Navigator’s listing of data files as “2004 Alternative (Corrected Default)”.
The process of imputing immigrant information to this new input file was handled differently than normal. While the corrected data did not alter the decision as to which households should have immigrant information imputed to them, it did require that the weights assigned to those households (and their members) be changed to reflect the new corrected weights. The process used for modifying the person-level weights of households which had immigrant information imputed to them is as follows:
PersonWeight = NewCPSPersonWeight * (PersonWeightAfterImmigrantImputations / OrigCPSWeight)
FamilyWeight and HouseholdWeight were similarly calculated.
Note: An initial version of the new 2004 input data was released which did not adjust weights of immigrant households in the manner described above. Instead, the weights from the original after-immigrant imputations was (incorrectly) used for these households. In order to allow users to reproduce results that used this initial version of the new 2004 data, the weights from the initial file have been saved as the variables AltPersonWeight, AltFamilyWeight and AltHouseholdWeight. These weights should be used only to match earlier estimates that used these (incorrect) weights.
